projects Projects Micro credits for Mothers on a project basis co-operates with local partners. With each existing partner we tailor made a micro finance program using their knowledge, mostly cultural, and benefiting from their experiences with and access to our target group. Cambodia Cambodia spans a landmass over five times that of the Netherlands. Its total population is 14 million, of which 37% is younger than 15 years and only 3% older than 65 years. In short: many children and very few seniors. In comparison, in the Netherlands these numbers are 18% and 14% respectively. Cambodia's population composition is a direct result of Pol Pot's brutal regime that reined the country in the late 1970s and is still posing many challenges. That is why Micro credits for Mothers wants to lend a helping hand. PTD1 Project In Battambang, close to neighboring Thailand, Micro credits for Mothers works with Ptea Teuk Dong to support 26 former homeless families. Ptea Teuk Dong already did a great job in re-integrating these families in the society. The next step towards self-sufficiency is creating income. This particular micro finance program aims to support the families in starting activities that lead to a higher and stable income directly benefiting their children through continued education and better food. A social worker visits all families involved on a regular basis. | Starfish1 Project This project is 'under construction'. It targets a group of HIV-positive women. Starfish made a big step already in assisting them with necessary medical care. Our micro finance program helps these families generate income in order to make them less, or preferably not, dependent on (relief) aid, a first step towards regaining their self-respect and self-sufficiency. | Sri Lanka Sri Lanka is one and a half times the size of the Netherlands and has a population of 20 million. The ongoing domestic war between Tamil Tigers and the current administration has a negative impact on economic growth. The December 2004 tsunami destroyed much of the coastal areas and claimed many lives. Especially the poor and women have to struggle to rebuild their lives and they definitely can use a helping hand. One we are more than happy to give. BBSWI1 Project Our micro finance program as set-up with Bentota Buddhist Social Welfare Institution (BBSWI) targets mothers of children who are not accepted by regular schools in the Bentota area. Instead, these children attend classes provided by BBSWI at the Pittaramba temple complex. The women receive micro credits to invest in production resources for their private enterprises. This way, we help them become independent and strong as to make them less vulnerable. | JSK1 Project Janodaya Sajeewana Kendraya is known for her awareness programs and self-help approach. Our micro finance program with JSK focuses on awareness of the woman's place and role as part of the family. A group of 50 women receives micro credits to invest in income generation activities involving not just her but her whole family. Each family member must be aware of the role of the mother in the family. The program is based on JSK's experience with problems women are facing related to increased absence of the fathers and growing consumerism of the children. | |
