Organizational structure

The organizational structure is rather straightforward; the foundation is made up of the Board and volunteers. On the ground in Asia, we work in partnership with locally established organizations.

Board, volunteers, and sponsors

The board currently has three members. Every month we welcome new volunteers. Board and volunteers do not receive any payment whatsoever.

Our partners

To ensure the women receive best possible support we work closely together with local partners rather than try to manage everything from here. Our partners are well established in their respective communities and have more insight into the specific problems of the women they work with. The foundation's existing partners have a variety of backgrounds and follow a different approach. They share one important characteristic they all have gained enormous trust within their local community.

Mission and objective

Our objective is to use micro credits as a means to give mothers of deprived children in Asia a chance to enhance their autonomy and independence and with that the quality of her own life and that of her children.

The foundation aims to realize her objective using the following tactics:

  • raise funds to benefit mothers of disadvantages children in Asia
  • promote self-sufficiency through support in teaching skills and craftsmanship;
  • invest in a sustainable increase of income;
  • consultation on revenue generating capacity to break the vicious circle of poverty for these mothers;
  • connect people in Asia and the Netherlands to exchange knowledge, experience, and best practices.

Approach

photo woman selling fresh fish Sri Lanka We raise funds in the Netherlands and allocate these funds locally in partnership with aid organizations active in the respective communities.

  • No deposit
    We do not request a deposit in order to get a loan for the simple reason that most women would not be able to do so. What we do require is for each woman to appoint to guarantors (also women). These women are first in line to receive a loan once the repayment of the original is complete. We hope to establish a personal platform and bouncing board to which the women involved can go for help and support. Our local partners continue to provide the same.
  • Reasonable interest
    Micro credits for Mothers charges no or very limited interest rates. The only reason to charge interest would be to cover the local partner's cost. Payback schemes typically aim to repay the loan in one year with monthly installments starting two months after the investment. Meaning each installment is one tenth of the loan received.
  • Local investments
    All investments are made locally, so that local economy profits. So, if a woman wants to invest in a sewing machine or bycicle, we buy it at the local market.

Results

There are different ways to measure our performance and results. Spread over two countries, 46 women received a small loan that they used to establish or expand private enterprises. Hundred forty children thus have a chance for a better future.

We invested 5,000 euros and we will continue to allocate this money to help more women. Besides that, Micro credits for Mothers and our four partners share knowledge and experience in supporting these women to a higher degree of independence and self-sufficiency.

Financials

To bestow the same level of trust we opt to make all financials and results available to the public. You can see exactly how we spent donations and grants on the results page or in our financial and social annual report.
