For this program, we selected 25 women living in the Battambang area, Cambodia's second city near the Thailand border. Over the last decade this area saw many returnee families that fled the Pol Pot regime and lived in Thai refugee camps ever since. Upon their return, they lived on the streets owning nothing but their lives. Our project partner offered a safe haven, schooling and finally housing. We allocate micro credits - a next step towards self-reliance. | Cordaid supports Micro credits for Mothers! Cordaid granted funds for our project in Sri Lanka. With these funds, we can help a group of about 50 women living north of the capital Colombo. This project runs in close co-operation with a local partner well known for its work with self-help groups. Their experience teaches us that women are facing more and harsher problems stemming from frequent absence of their husbands and growing consumerism of their children. This micro finance project thus focuses on awareness of the role of the mother and breadwinner in the family. | Micro credits for Mothers in the media The media show frequent interest in Micro credits for Mothers.
